If you are hunting for the big salmon, Senja offers multiple salmon rivers. The national tourist road Senja starts in Botnhamn in North Senja and takes you to Gryllefjord on the south side, with detours to the fishing villages Husøy and Mefjordvær. Regardless of which way you come, it is worth spending some time in Senja, taking a detour and maybe experiencing some local food from one of the island's restaurants. Either way Senja is a place where the drive itself is worth it.
